My History, Mi Comunidad

Do you feel like young people are heard in our community?

What are the biggest hopes you have for our community

What are the things you would like to change for the better here?

We need to hear your voice!

Come make history with us to treasure our past and imagine a better future for our community!

Young people from Grades 6-12 are invited to share their feelings and hopes about our community through the special “MY HISTORY, MI COMUNIDAD” project which is HIGHLIGHTING and PUBLICIZING youth voices in Nogales, Rio Rico, Patagonia, Sonoita, and the rest of Santa Cruz County.

Make your voice heard through artwork, a creative reflection (at least 300 words in English, español, or even Spanglish), or other pieces giving us YOUR PERSPECTIVE on one of the following topics:

1 – My View of Mi Comunidad

What are your feelings about growing up in a rural border community like Santa Cruz County? (What’s interesting, positive, and/or needing improvement here?)

What changes do you want for kids growing up here 20 years from now?

2 – My Special Comunidad

What are 1-2 special public places in Santa Cruz County for you or your family?

Why are those places and their history special to you?

3 – Recent History in Our Comunidad

What were your experiences growing up in Santa Cruz County during the 2020-2021 Covid-19 Pandemic?

Creative pieces accepted through Sept. 6, 2024

Your contributions to MY HISTORY, MI COMUNIDAD will be included in the “Beyond Fronteras” exhibit which will open at the 1904 Courthouse September 2024.

To submit your creative pieces, please contact:

Mr. Juan Miguel García, Assistant Coordinator of History & Humanities ([email protected])

Dr. Carlos Francisco Parra, Project Coordinator/Curator ([email protected])

This is YOUR CHANCE to share what young people hope and desire for our community to grow.

Your artwork, creative reflection, or other pieces are much desired to make this exhibition MEANINGFUL for young people and to remind community leaders of the importance of listening to our youth.
