During summer 2024, teens in the U.S.-Mexican border community of Nogales, Arizona, working with local teacher Miguel Grijalva created a mural representing local history. Watch as Mr. Grijalva and his students transform the Nogales Public Library’s lobby into a stunning visual celebration of the richness of borderland history and culture in Nogales and Santa Cruz County, Arizona.
Centuries after the Hohokam culture faded away, teenagers from the U.S.-Mexican border communities of Nogales and Rio Rico are studying and preserving our ancient indigenous past with the “Archaeology of Ambos Nogales” Program. Led by archaeologist Hunter Claypatch, what insights can these young people give us about the ancient Hohokam and Trincheras peoples? How can we better treasure our past as a community?
